Troubleshooting ILS Admin Tool Connection – Running a Traceroute
Running a Traceroute on Windows
- Open the Command Prompt:
- Go to Start > Run.
- Type
cmd and press Enter. - A command prompt window will open with a blinking cursor, e.g.,
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname>_.
- Run the traceroute command:
- Type:
tracert [hostname]
(Replace [hostname] with the IP address or name of the server you are testing.)
- Wait for the test to complete:
- The process may take up to a minute or more.
- It will generate a list of the connections between the client and the server’s IP address.
Running a Traceroute on macOS
- Use Built-in Network Tools:
- Open Finder and navigate to Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities.
- Open one of the following tools:
- Network Utility:
- Click the Traceroute tab.
- Enter the hostname of the server you are testing.
- Terminal:
- Type:
traceroute [hostname]
(Replace [hostname] with the name or IP address of the server you are testing.)
- Wait for the test to complete:
- The process may take up to a minute or more.
- It will generate a list of the connections between the client and the server’s IP address.
